Living cities
The living cities movement has emerged alongside the other “living” trends (living buildings, regenerative neighbourhoods, etc…) where the focus is shifting from not just reducing damage done by human settlements on the planet, but actually reversing the trend to look for net-benefit to the planet as a result.
- Living Cities – This NGO is supported by major foundations and financial institutions and focuses its research and initiatives on integrating private and public organizations and interests in the areas of education, income and asset building, the green economy and transit-oriented development. www.livingcities.org
- Brookings Institute Living Cities Research – This Institute is a source of a lot of good research and this particular initiative involves data research into many US cities with an eye to key changes over time. http://www.brookings.edu/about/programs/metro/living-cities/main
- The Center for the Living City – This organization is closely linked to the work of Jane Jacobs and focuses mainly on the livability of cities. http://centerforthelivingcity.org/
